Questions
What is Open Graph?
Open Graph is a set of <meta> tags in the <head> of a page, such as og:title, og:description and og:image. Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and many other apps read them to build the card you see when someone shares a link. X reads its own twitter: tags first and falls back to Open Graph.
How do I test my Open Graph tags?
Enter the address of the page above and choose Check. The checker loads the page the way social sites do, shows the previews, lists what is missing, says how to fix each problem, and gives you the tags to copy.
Which tags should every page have?
A <title>, a meta description, og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type and twitter:card. Add og:image:alt for people who use a screen reader, and a canonical link for search engines.
What size should my share image be?
1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 shape), as a JPG, PNG or WebP under 5 MB, at a full https:// address. Social sites don't show SVG images. Keep text and faces away from the edges, because some apps crop the image to a square.
Why does my shared link look different from the preview here?
Social sites remember a preview for days, so after you change your tags they may still show the old one. Ask Facebook to read the page again in its Sharing Debugger (Scrape Again), and LinkedIn in its Post Inspector. X, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp have no such button: share the address with something added, such as ?v=2, to get a fresh preview. Each app also changes its design now and then, so the previews here show the content and the shape, not every pixel.
Does it check X (Twitter) cards?
Yes. It reads twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image, shows the large or small card that X will use, and tells you when X falls back to your Open Graph tags.
Why can't it check my page?
It checks public pages on http or https at the normal ports, not addresses on a private network. Some sites block unknown visitors or answer slowly. And it reads the HTML as the server sends it, like social sites do: tags that JavaScript adds later are not seen here, and mostly not by social sites either.
Is it free?
Yes, with no account. To keep it fair for everyone, each visitor can check 20 pages every 5 minutes. We don't keep the pages you check.
Need hosting for that page?
We host websites, APIs and products on our own servers since 1996, with free HTTPS and daily backups.
